Mission

The IOV Pharmacy is responsible for the planning, execution and verification of pharmaceutical activities. In addition to procuring the medicines necessary for normal clinical practice, the Pharmacy prepares, in dedicated laboratories, personalized single doses of anticancer medicines. The galenic activities are carried out both for IOV and for other public affiliated companies. The Pharmacy manages the direct distribution of home-use medicines to patients discharged from ordinary hospitalization or day hospital, or after an outpatient visit.

All activities are performed with the aid of computer programs that record every step of the process, including any adverse drug reactions.

The Pharmacy is also involved in assisting clinical trials and elaborates – in compliance with patient rights in terms of confidentiality – data for epidemiological and pharmacological research. It contributes to generating the information flows required by the regional and national legislation and, in collaboration with the Strategic Management and the Departments of the IOV, participates on committees for health planning and research.

The UOC Pharmacy includes the following Simple Units:

  • UOS Oncological galenic clinic
  • UOS Government of medical devices and health technologies
  • UOS Radiopharmacy

Drug Distribution

Patients discharged from the hospital (hospitalization or day hospital) or after an outpatient visit can pick up the drugs prescribed by the IOV specialists at the pharmacy counter, located on the first floor of the Busonera hospital, from Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Pharmacists provide information on prescribed medicines and possible interactions with other treatments: it is therefore advisable to bring any medications you are taking with you. Medicines supplied and not used can be returned to the Pharmacy for safe disposal.
